Reasons Why Countries Like China, Turkey, India etc. Are Still On Friendly Terms With Putin's Russia
Russia's invasion of Ukraine has been almost a month now, and the invasion has turned into a full-scale war in their region of Eastern Europe. Russia has been facing sanctions from many other countries, particularly the European Union and the United States of America, for their actions against a sovereign country.
The main sanction against Russia is the restriction of trade with some countries that are allies of the United States. Although there have been rumors that the United States and the United Kingdom continue to buy Russian oil, there has been no concrete evidence that they do so. The sanctions on Russia are intended to cripple President Vladimir Putin's source of funds for the war he is embarking on and his close Russian allies and friends who are considered oligarchs have been hit with seizures of properties and investments all over the world.
Most of the Russian oligarchs' properties have been seized in other countries, the most notable of which is their superyachts, which have been seized across Europe. like Italy, France, Spain, and the United Kingdom have all seized superyachts that belong to Russian oligarchs. According to reports, the US has offered cash rewards to people who have information that can lead to the seizure of assets belonging to Russian oligarchs. Even though a host of countries that are allies of the US have cut ties with Russia for their actions, countries like China, Israel, India, South Africa, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and Turkey still have a good relationship with Russia. Their good relationship with President Putin's Russia is not an unconditional one, as they are, in one way or another, beneficiaries of Russia's benevolence. These countries listed above rely on Russia for some of the most important commodities being traded between their countries. India gets a supply of military equipment from Russia, and this accounts for 60% of its military imports. Despite its close relationship with the US, Israel, on the other hand, is unable to impose sanctions on Russia due to international law.
Israel's law states that sanctions can only be imposed on countries considered enemies of the state, and Russia is not considered an enemy of the state. The United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Saudi Arabia haven't condemned the actions of Russia against Ukraine as they didn't vote against them in the U.N. Security Council draft resolution.
The two countries that are rich Persian Gulf monarchies see Russia as a major influence in the coalition of oil-producing countries and believe boycotting them will affect the price of oil significantly.
Turkey is a member of NATO and has not imposed sanctions on Russia because they have a good relationship with themselves, although they contradict each other in some aspects. The President of Turkey and Vladimir Putin have for upmed a good friendship as Turkish forces have fought side by side with Russia in Azerbaijan and Libya.
China and Russia have had an improved relationship over the years, and China has chosen to maintain neutrality in the ongoing war in Ukraine, as they endorsed Russia's views that NATO expansion caused the war in Ukraine.
