Uduak-Abasi Sentenced To Death For The Rape And Murder Of Job Seeker, Iniubong Umoren

The Akwa Ibom State High Court, Uyo, has sentenced Uduak-Abasi Akpan to death for the rape and killing of Iniubong Umoren who linked up with him to get a job.

Recall that Uduak had deceived Umoren with a fake job interview, luring her out of her home to meet with him for the interview.

He then went ahead to rape and murdered Umoren in the outskirt of Uyo in April 2021.

He later buried her remains in his family house where the crime happened.

There was a massive cry out for justice over Umoren’s death on the internet and the suspect, Uduak, who was initially on the run, was later captured by the police.

In a confessional statement made by Uduak-Abasi Akpan, he confessed that his initial plan was to sleep with her, but because Umoren got infuriated and wouldn’t allow him to do it, he became violent, using dangerous weapons like a stabilizer and a box iron to attack her.

She started screaming as she bled out, then he used her jeans to strangle her till she became lifeless.

Delivering judgement on Thursday, the 4th of August, the court found Uduak guilty of the rape and murder of Umoren and was sentenced to die by hanging. However, Uduak’s father and sister were discharged and acquired.
