A young man who was said to have made the sum of N28 million through internet fraud popularly known as Yahoo Yahoo was on Friday, August 12, jailed by a court while he is also to forfeit a house he built and car he bought with the proceeds of the fraudulent act, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) announced on Friday.
The internet fraudster, whose name was given as Soliu Muhammed, from Woru, Ilorin East Local Government Area of the State and who was said to be a boutique owner, was sentenced to a total of 18 months imprisonment by Justice Ibrahim Yusuf of the Kwara State High Court sitting in Ilorin for the offence bordering on internet fraud.

The judge found Muhammed guilty on the three counts levelled against him by the Ilorin Zonal Command of the anti graft commission and consequently pronounced a prison term on each count, totalling 18 months, which are to run concurrently.
It was gathered that Muhammed's journey to prison began on August 2 when operatives of the EFCC, while acting on intelligence gathered on the activities of some internet fraudsters in Ilorin, traced him to his house located at Oke-Ose area of Ilorin, where he was arrested.
According to a statement by the commission posted on its Facebook wall on Friday, investigation into the case revealed that Muhammed, in the course of his fraudulent activities on the internet, benefited over N28 million, part of which he used to build a house, open a boutique and purchase a Toyota Camry car.
When the charges were read to him in the court, he was said to have pleaded not guilty but after the EFCC prosecutor proved his case beyond doubt, the judge found him guilty and sentenced him accordingly.
Apart from the sentencing, the young man is also to forfeit the house he built with the proceeds of the internet crime and the car he bought with the money to the Federal Government of Nigeria.
